We are freshmen students at NTH@C in Texas. We designed a website to raise awareness about sustainable lifestyles and what are the benefits of it. We want everybody to recognize the importance of Earthships and what they can do for the earth.

All About Earthships

What are Earthships?

Earthships are buildings that represent sustainable living. They are designed to be self-sufficient and environmentally friendly. They are created out of natural materials such as tires, glass bottles, etc.

What makes them special?

They were created to focus on passive solar heating, water harvesting, and waste recycling. These buildings are special because this makes them energy efficient and reduces their ecological footprint.

Overall, Earthships are resilient, they can save you a lot of money, creates a harmonious living environment, and has many features that allow Earthships to perform well in various climates while still maintaining comfort and safety for the people staying inside.

What is sustainability?

Sustainability is the ability to meet all of our needs but still being mindful. It’s a way we can be mindful of our resource use, energy use, and even preserve culture. It aims to ensure a more harmonious relationship for the world and make sure everyone has a better quality of life.

How do Earthships belong in that category?

Earthships are built to maximize the use of natural sunlight for lighting and heating, natural materials are often used such as tires, they include ways of treating waste naturally and collecting water for drinking, bath, etc. Not just that, but they allow people to grow their own food and are energy independent. They are sustainable because they promote self-sufficiency and reduce environment impact.

What are the benefits?

Living sustainably can save costs significantly, helps protect our environment more, more community engagement, increases resilience, and even include many health benefits such as consuming organic sourced foods. Overall, this benefits the environment but can enhance someone’s well-being and their community strength.

Our Exhibit

Our Earthship was created using recycled resources and items that we previously owned. We wanted to prevent ourselves from buying brand new resources to follow the sustainable lifestyle idea.

We used cardboard, paper, plastic lids, fake grass, pebbles, clay, toothpicks, hot glue, paint, and tape.
